Wow. I remember reading sales figures for Beckett somewhere, maybe for Waiting for Godot, and was shocked to see it was in the millions. I should go Google that before posting, but, eh ...

Here's something I found from googling this:
""The French publisher said no, we couldn't have it, but I published it anyway," Rosset said. "We brought it out for $1 a copy and sold more than a million." Currently, "Waiting for Godot" is Grove Press's best-selling backlist title, according to Publishers Weekly magazine. Annual sales are some 50,000 copies, for a total of about 2.5 million copies to date."
Think about every college class in modern theater in every university for 50 years.
