This is the review, by the way, that inspired me to say, "why don't we just review ourselves."

  1. Maybe it should be good as a self-critique exercise. Try to step out for a bit and see how everything looks from outside. But as criticism, critical reviewing to be taken seriously, I would not trust any artist/poet/whatever evaluating their own work. There is not enough distance. One needs to see the whole forest first in order to focus closely on the details of every tree.

    I thought you were ironic when you said "After all, who knows more about my work than me? (Especially its weaknesses.)".

    You don't really tnink that, do you?

    Ironic? Moi? That part is true. I can see my weaknesses pretty clearly. (Maybe that makes me a bad advertiser or promoter of my self.) Of course a self-critique is about as far from objectivity as possible. On the other hand I don't know what a disinterested, unbiased reading looks like any more. Critical writing is valuable in part because of its biases and hidden agendas.
