Mary Oliver
Here is a good post on one of my least favorite poets, Mary Oliver.
This makes me want to go find more brutal posts about Oliver. Liu is right on about the blatant class and Orientalist issues in this poem, but the average Oliver poem is quite bad enough without going this far. And I'd like to see why.
I never read this poet before but now that I have discovered this embarrassingly bad poem, I will use it as an embodiment of the condescending pseudo-liberal attitude to us, eternal Third World victims, that I despise.
