Sentences from student papers that make me want to tear my hair out:
"These two poems have various similarities and differences that it is important to compare and contrast." [or equivalent in Spanish]
Translation: "I am bored by this assignment; I am going through the motions until I graduate in three months. I can always fall back on my high-school training here, even though I am a senior in COLLEGE. Go Jayhawks! Muck Fizzou!"
No Jayhawk Hatin'--I have them at least going to the 8.

The sad thing is that he doesn't even have the balls to actually write "Fuck Mizzou," but has to resort to t-shirt cliches.
ResponderEliminarThat's because I am quoting the tee-shirt. That's what the tee-shirt says. Do you see the little quotes around my quotation? There is no "Fuck Mizzou" tee-shirt because that wouldn't be a joke, not even a lame clichéd joke like Muck Fizzou. There would be no reason for me to write "Fuck Mizzou" because that wouldn't be quoting anything.

ResponderEliminarMy bad! I grazed over the first word of your second paragraph, which made me think you were quoting another student paper. My criticism was based on the assumption that a student had written that second 'graph. Sorry for the misread and the insult!
Sorry for over-reacting. Juck Mohnson County! (Just kidding.)
ResponderEliminarYou know, I feel the same way sometimes. . .
