But the problem is that I, and I suspect you and most of your readers, just don't have the resources and time to buy and read even a fraction of the poetry Ron likes. Sometimes a blunter, more qualitative assessment would help.

And right on, Ornette!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13570727574147633786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3759353.post-76540095986319916092007-04-11T18:30:00.000-05:002007-04-11T18:30:00.000-05:00Speaking as one of THOSE detractors, I gotta say, ...Speaking as one of THOSE detractors, I gotta say, that first sentence in your original post displays an awful lot of 'tude.

Let's hear it for 'tude! Jessehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15430253706561827669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3759353.post-44345539556248367092007-04-10T07:35:00.000-05:002007-04-10T07:35:00.000-05:00I like Ron personally. And he was my inspiration to start my own blog, which means a hefty influence in my own life.

Critically, though, I diverge from Ron in several respects. Often I don't voice disagreement as loudly as I might because I don't want to be confused with THOSE Silliman detractors.

And Silliman's comment boxes really have to go. A mainstay of them is a man of whom Ron said, that the fact that he is a college teacher is an indictment of higher education in this country.Jonathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09371893596402673898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3759353.post-49505889399486230852007-04-10T06:46:00.000-05:002007-04-10T06:46:00.000-05:00Ron Silliman's approach often strikes me as a kind...Ron Silliman's approach often strikes me as a kind of demagoguery. He sets himself up as the leader of a million unknown but deserving post-avantists. In order for there to be a million followers, your standards have to be flexible. Jessehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15430253706561827669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3759353.post-30306453830806271972007-04-09T19:51:00.000-05:002007-04-09T19:51:00.000-05:00Silliman's purported niceness is condescending. Antin, one of the most intellectually interesting poets of the past 40 years, "noodling."

And SoQ is nothing more than an insult, a category so bend-able that its only meaning is "socially respectable poetry that does not appeal to Ron Silliman, categorized in an insulting manner."Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07000424514491809383noreply@blogger.com
